Satinette Harpy pose
My Satinette Harpy in a bodybuilding pose. I was looking to combine the displays of both muscle and feathers

Hagfish Mermaid

Sea Pangolin Knight
A knight based on a Sea Pangolin, or Scaly Foot Snail. Snails that live on underwater vents, and create carbon scales for protection. This design has an intimidating silhouette, softened by the small snail eyes protruding from her helmet.
Drawn on Clip Studio using Frenden Brushes (Found It for inks, Guess-o Guesso for paints)

Satinette Harpy
An update of the first character I created, based on Satinette Fan Tailed pigeons. I still enjoy the beard and chest feather details, I specifically wanted to update his outfit. His old, ill fitting sweat pants were meant to echo the fanned out feathers on the pigeons feet, but I decided make it subtler with the tongues of his shoes outward, and gave him a more fashionable pair of pants.

Frilled Shark Mermaid- 2018
A redraw of my previous Frilled Shark illustration, for Mermay 2018.
This image shows off the teeth Frilled sharks possess.

Blainevilles Beaked Whale Mermaid
Mermaid based on the Blainevilles Beaked Whale for Mermay 2018.
These are one of the whales that possess large tusks that protrude from their mouths, and little is known about how they use them. As mermaids, the tusks make them resemble orcs.

Secretary bird Harpy
Made in Manga Studio 5 using Frenden's Water Colour brush set
Secretary birds have long legs and interesting plumage that translated very well to a human form.

Cassowary Harpy
Made in Manga Studio 5 using Frenden's Water Colour brush set
Cassowaries are large birds notable for their dangerous talons. Their heavy set bodies are echoed in this harpy's shoulder plumage, which also brings to mind fancy fur coats.

Frilled Shark Mermaid
Made in Manga Studio 5 using Frenden's Water Colour brush set
Frilled sharks can be quite menacing to look at, and while this mermaid's needlike teeth cannot be seen, She still retains the broad muzzle and extended gills that Frilled Sharks have.

Blobfish mermaid
Made in Manga Studio 5 using Frenden's Water Colour brush set
Blobfish are usually only seen above water, where they have a very distinctive look, but far beneath the water where they live they are far better at holding their shape. Despite that, I wanted the mermaid to retain some of the goofy splendor of the blobfish above water.

Seaworm Mermaid
Made in Manga Studio 5 using Frenden's Water Colour brush set
This mermaid is based off of a polychaete sea worm. Deep sea creatures like worms provide a great, unique perspective when designing mermaids.

Chimera Werecat Human Shift
Made in Manga Studio 5 using Frenden's Water Colour brush set
I wanted to expand the rules of what makes a werecat, to make something really different. Chimeras are three parts, but classically the lion part is the main body. For this specifically I wanted to focus on the fully human form, and hint at his mythical connections, with the ram leather jacket, ram horn earring and snake tattoo. Since the lion is his strongest part, his visual connections relate to his body rather than accessories..

Chimera Werecat Half Shift
Made in Manga Studio 5 using Frenden's Water Colour brush set
Part of my experimentation with a Chimera Werecat. My main focus was how the goat grows out of his back. In human form he has extra shoulder bones where the goat grows out of.

Lady Amherst Harpy
Made in Manga Studio 5 using Frenden's Water Colour brush set
The elegant feathers on a lady amherst pheasant is only found on males, but gender roles apply differently to humans and I wanted to reflect that in this hybrid of human and bird. The idea occurred as a way of experimenting with facial hair (of which I have some experience) with the black and silver feathers translating easily into a mutton chop like beard.

Man o War mermaid
Made in Manga Studio 5 using Frenden's Water Colour brush set
Man o wars are stunning in their colours and shapes, reminiscent of an elaborate gown. As a result, this mermaid looks more like an alien centaur, floating in the ocean like her animal counterpart.

Turkey Harpy
Made in Manga Studio 5 using Frenden's Water Colour brush set
originally made for Thanksgiving. Her elegant dress comes from female turkeys. One of my favourite parts when designing harpies is how their bird wings can be translated onto their human form.

Kaiju Raptor
This harpy is modelled after Godzilla, with her wings making her resemble a dinosaur more than a killer lizard. I attempted to preserve Godzilla's unique facial shape and her dress has visual cues to the monster, including a neon blue tinted veil to evoke godzilla's glowing spine.
