background for short film Rhizanthella, made in Photoshop.
I wanted the cave to have a calm, gentle atmosphere by using a blue colour palette that contrasted well with the red Rhizanthella flower.

Rhizanthella background Cave system part 1
background for short film Rhizanthella. Made in Photoshop. I wanted the environment to shift from a cramped corridor into a wide and expansive cave. I used inspiration from various backgrounds in the animated television show, Gravity Falls.

The final shot closes back into a walled corridor, although it's more open to the cave and feels less cramped. It also hints at what the dwarves are doing there in the first place, which is of course, mining.
Early Surtr Hearth Colour Test
Early colour test for my 3D environment assessment. We decided early for a mix of purples and blue greys highlighted by strong oranges, to reflect the dying volcano light. The idea for the back story, in a few words is about sacrifice to save the remains of the volcano, which led to the heart of the planet, saving it from destruction.
Early Concept for Castle at Surtr Hearth
Early concept for my 3d environment group assessment. The volcano, Surtr Hearth, is meant to lead to the centre of the planet, and so I designed the castle in the middle after a human heart. Later on the design became more subtle with it's heart connections.
Colour test for Surtr Hearth
For my 3d environment assessment. An all but dead volcano, the last of it's heat absorbed and stored in the castle found in the slowly pooled lake above the hardened obsidian. Remains of a golem society that catered to the Volcano adds a bit of mystery to the environment.
Surtr Hearth from afar
Concept for my 3d environment assessment to illustrate what it looks like from afar. The mountains represent a hand. The path leading down the island is hardened overflow from the volcano from before it froze.
Above stage- Gryphon Heart High
An environment for my major project animation in Flash. The area above the stage where Riley sets up his trap was drawn and animated by me and designed by Paul Georghiou and myself. We went through several iterations of the scaffolding to ensure it fit with the story while still making physical sense.
Boiler Room- Gryphon Heart High
An environment for my major project animation made in Flash. The boiler room where the principal lectures Urvle. It was designed by myself and the colours were tweaked by Paul Georghiou to match the palette. I kept some continuity using the campaign posters which are seen in several scenes. The environment itself was designed to be foreboding and as well as nod to the 'fire hazard' that just occurred in the previous scene.
Backstage- Gryphon Heart High
Background I drew for my major project animation in Flash. Designed and refined by me and Paul Georghiou. The background was framed so the boiler room is just a small ways away from the stage so Riley can peer through. The posters were designed by myself and Benjamin Heng. They're a mix of campaign posters and stage play posters the school may have performed earlier.
